BALLYMENA United travel to Clandeboye Park, Bangor to face Ards in the opening round of the BetMcLean League Cup on Wednesday evening.

The Sky Blues also won their first round Toals Co Antrim Shield tie away to Newington, goals from David McDaid and Kenneth Kane enough to secure a place in the draw for the second round.

If at the end of normal playing time the scores are equal then two periods of fifteen minutes each way will be played. If there are no goals scored during extra time the tie shall be decided by kicks from the penalty mark in accordance with the conditions set out in the laws of the game.
It's been a few seasons since Ards were in the top flight, but they've recently announced plans for a new ground in Newtownards, although in the meantime they continue to make use of Clandeboye Park. Both sides will be looking forward to this meeting and will hold hopes of a win and a place in the second round, so expect a tough encounter.
