BALLYMENA United welcome Champions Linfield to the Showgrounds on Saturday evening for both sides second Danske Bank Premiership game of the season.
The last time the sides met was a night to forget for United fans as, after Joe McCready had opened the scoring in the 19th minute, the visitors scored through Mark Haughey, Jordan Stewart, Jimmy Callacher and Andrew Waterworth to secure a 4-1 away win.
Latest results v Linfield:
Ballymena United 1-4 Linfield, Ballymena Showgrounds, 14th February 2020. Att: 1640
Ballymena United 1-2 Linfield, Ballymena Showgrounds, 26th November 2019. Att: 1172
Linfield 2-1 Ballymena United, National Stadium, 29th October 2019. Att: 2292
After last seasons premature end, Linfield were eventually declared Champions after weeks of discussions came to the conclusion that points should be awarded on a per game basis. The Blues had an excellent start to the season, beating PSNI 6-0 in the first round of the Toals Co Antrim Shield, winning 2-0 away to Carrick Rangers in the second round then, when they got their league campaign underway last weekend, grabbed a 5-1 home win over Carrick Rangers to leave them sitting top of the table.
Ballymena United:
Last weekend was the first league game for the Sky Blues since a 2-0 defeat at home to Coleraine in the last game before the league ground to a halt. They exacted revenge in the semi-final of the Sadler's Peaky Blinder Cup semi-final, knocking Coleraine out on penalties, only to lose the final to Glentoran. Most would've expected Coleraine to win at home on the opening day of this season, but the Braidmen were having none of it, Kofi Balmer scoring in the 27th minute, and holding on for the win after going down to 10 men when Josh Kelly was sent off just before half-time.
