FOLLOWING an application process overseen by the majority shareholders of the company, we welcome Gary McConnell and Andy McDowell as new directors of Ballymena United to join existing directors Chris Selwood, Philip Simpson, Matthew Armstrong and Ivan Russell.
Taking on the role of chairman is Chris Selwood, supported by Philip Simpson as vice chair.
The directors have nominated three new members onto the management committee - Alan Kirk, Philip Kyle and Emma Russell.
Chairman Chris Selwood welcomed all new members to the board room, 'the past 2-3 months has been one of significant changes throughout the club, but with the full backing of the shareholders at the AGM in June we have guided the club through that process both on the pitch and off it. Both myself and Philip are honoured to have been nominated to lead the board into the new era of Ballymena United, and will strive to bring something new whilst also ensuring to keep the traditions of a club that has always been steeped in the local community.
We thank outgoing directors David Blair and John Murray for their stewardship over the past number of decades, particularly their wisdom in the past few months, and wish them well on their deserved retirement. We also extend our thanks to Matthew Armstrong, who acted as interim chairman over the past eight months through a period of change and difficult decisions.
We welcome Andy and Gary onto the board, two men well known in Ballymena and true Sky Blues. Already their presence in the club has been strongly felt and they will bring their own backgrounds and experiences to the role.
Onto the committee comes Alan Kirk, who has been instrumental in our video and graphics since the return of football after covid, and will lead our media with new developments planned for the near future. Philip Kyle returns to the club having previously supported the senior club and youth academy on various tasks and roles, and will particularly bring administrative experience to the operational running of the senior and youth teams.
We are delighted to welcome Emma Russell to the management committee, whilst this is historic, it is neither gender nor tokenism that has driven this appointment, Emma brings her background in human resources as we look to modernise the running of the business in both policy and practice. Emma will also lead on our volunteer co-ordination.'
