Ballymena United are delighted to confirm the signing of Kym Nelson from Ards. The 26-year-old midfielder joins the Sky Blues on a three and a half year contract.
He brings the previous experience of playing for Glentoran and Cliftonville as well as for Ards in the Championship.
Manager David Jeffrey was delighted to eventually get Nelson, 'this has been one where we have had to be most patient. We approached Ards in preseason to see if they would be prepared to let Kym leave then. Understandably they weren't prepared to let him go and we had to accept that. We went back to make a second approach and I've got to thank their chairman Warren Patton and the club, as we were able to easily and amicably come to an agreement for him to move now. He has been on our radar for some time, he comes highly recommended and we went and did our own due diligence on him and likes what we saw. He's coming with a burning desire to play here and will strengthen our options on the pitch. A no nonsense player who is technically very sound and intends to bring his hard work rate to the Showgrounds as he did at Ards.'
Nelson, who will play as number 28 for the rest of the season, was eager to get started, 'I'm over the moon, it's a pleasure to be here and just glad it's finally happened. I can't wait to get started. It's going to be fantastic to working with David, in all honesty he is the maestro of the Irish league.
I'll be looking to bring energy, hard work, I'm here to win, and win trophies. I've played at the Showgrounds plenty of times before and am ready and willing to get out there in-front of the fans and I'm busting to go.'
