Sports Bond 1000th Draw
Uploaded Monday, 19th Apr, 2021 at 07:03

19 YEARS and 12 weeks after its first weekly draw Sports Bond had its 1000th.
Apart from 14 weeks during the first lockdown every Tuesday has seen a Sports Bond draw giving away thousands in prize money from £10 to £1000. This week to celebrate this milestone Ballymena United kindly donated £1000 to the prize fund and it was decided to split the £1000 into 4 prizes of £250. As the draw was completed the four lucky Sports Bond members were announced and they ranged from Ballykeel to Portglenone and Ahoghill to Ballee. In fact it was an even split with two female winners and two male winners.

In Ballykeel Sharon Donnelly (A548) was a £250 winner. Sharon has been a Sports Bond member for many years and was a member on the agency of the late Geoff Cooke. In all this time she has only a couple of £10 wins now she has a deserved big prize.

In Portglenone the sky blue supporting McCallion family have four family members in Sports Bond. Recently Lawrence McCallion the 'Daddy' of the Family was a £50 winner. However it was son Mark McCallion (B307) who won £250. The McCallion Family members are members on the very successful agency of Margaret Downey. They May be missing seeing their beloved sky blues but these supporters will enjoy their Sports Bond wins as compensation.

In Ballee Tesco employee Barbara Bates (A824) was delighted to learn of her win when her agent David Brown and promoter Brian Thompson delivered her the good news and her cheque. Barbara has had a few wins to date but this is best success to date.

Finally out in Ahoghill Robin Deane (B876) has been a member for around 4 years on the agency of Maurice Anderson. Robin was delighted to learn of his success when informed by his agent. Again he has had a few wins on Sports Bond but this tops the lot.

We are always pleased to see our great members enjoy success but on this occasion we were delighted to receive the support of Ballymena United management committee who made this possible and send a sincere thanks to them. As for Sports Bond its business as usual.

Margaret Downey had a £250 winner this week and also had a £50 winner with neighbour Jim Gaul (A8259). Margaret is enjoying a very successful 2021 as she has had winners in the New Years Draw, Sports Bond and First Score. Not only is she a good agent but she is 'a lucky agent' always buy a ticket if she is selling.

Another agent who had a £250 winner was Brett Thompson and he also had a £50 winner with Maurice Agnew in Connor (A6736). Maurice is a former referee and once was referee of the Steel and Sons cup final on Christmas morning.

The two £10 minor winners were Cathy Campbell (A7940) and David Davidson (A9102). We believe this is David's first win since joining a couple of years back. Cathy has been a long time member and is a very deserved success.

The jackpot numbers were 5, 11, 12, and 16 and were not allocated to any member and so the jackpot is £250 for this week so yet another £250 is on offer. Now where did we see that amount before?
Bertie Morrison
Ballymena United and Sports Bond were saddened to learn of the passing of Bertie Morrison after a short illness. Bertie was a lifelong Ballymena United supporter travelling home and away. As an Ulsterbus and latterly with Translink driver he would often ferry supporters to games. As Sportsbond member he was one of our early £1000 jackpot winners whilst a member of Janice Martin who worked with him at Translink. Since retirement he has been a member on the agency of Maurice Anderson.

In recent years Bertie’s committment to the club was recognised as he was awarded a SuperFan status by the NIFL. He will be missed by many friends and supporters. In particular Drew Cochrane aka the blind golfer. Both had seats in the directors box and as Drew was partial sighted Bertie would commentate on the match for Drew's benefit. To his wife Lila and daughters and son we extend our deepest sympathy. A Sky Blue to the end.
