Leroy Millar extends contract

BALLYMENA United are pleased to announce that Leroy Millar has signed a one year extension to his contract that will see him stay until the summer of 2022.
The Cullybackey native, who made his first team debut in 2013 under Roy Walker, has gone on to feature 167 times, contributing four goals.
Speaking after agreeing a new deal for Millar, manager David Jeffrey was pleased to be able to confirm the news, 'I'd like to announce to our supporters that after discussion with Leroy he has agreed a further year extension to his contract with which we are delighted. When we first came here it's fair to say he was on the periphery if the first team, and what we asked him to do was commit to training, to dedicate to working hard and listen to our advice, and people can see the development in him since then. It is pleasing that he sees his immediate future of the club here, and supporters and everyone connected to the club will be very happy to see him commit to the club.
People say 'he's one of our own' but it would be apt to say he maybe wasn't always appreciated as he should have been previously, maybe akin to being a prophet in your own town, and there's been talk and more recently there's been contemplation outside these walls with no basis or foundation about his future. Leroy simply took time to decide what was right for him going forward and we gave him the space to do that, as with all players, and we were able to marry what's best for him and the club - that's that he commits himself to here.'
Millar, who recently celebrated his 25th birthday, added, 'I'm delighted to stay here. I honestly didn't see myself going anywhere else, it's my hometown club and I've developed so much under David and Bryan and hopefully I continue to do so. I've been here on and off since the age of 12 and can't see myself anywhere else.'
