BALLYMENA United are delighted to sign 21-year-old Kavan Keenan from Ballymena Saturday Morning League side All Saints Old Boys.
Keenan, last season's All Saints Young Player of the Year, was invited up to train in the summer having impressed in the BSML last season. The right sided full back will continue to train with the senior squad, but will play with the development team until January to aid his transition up to senior football.
Manager David Jeffrey was delighted to be able to formally bring Kavan into the club having spent a number of weeks observing his progression, 'Kavan was highly recommended to us so we invited him up to first team training, in full knowledge of the jump in level, but to watch him perform in training and pre-season games has most impressive. People will know we are very much about our approach of taking incremental strides to protect players and though he will be very much continue to be part of the first team group, he will play with the U20's development team so that his football education continues now until Christmas to allow him to settle in. His ability and fitness have been excellent, but most impressive has been his attitude to training and learning.

Though we've been able to bring a number of players in, we never stop looking particularly at young local players and he's been most impressive.'
Keenan admits the step up has been big, but sees his game developing immensely, 'Obviously the step up has been levels above what I'm used to. All Saints are a top team in the Saturday morning league but that jump into the highest levels in local football is big. The speed of play, the fitness levels, the first touch is all a step up. I can see how my own play is developing already though as a result of being in the squad, there's a lot more pushing forward up the flanks and so that's certainly an area that has come one leaps and bounds in my game over the past couple of months.

I've come in and the players have really welcomed me in and treated as one of their own, and it's really a pleasure to step out onto the main arena of the Showgrounds with a sky blue top on and play for my local team who I've watched and supported.'
