Match Description: Ballymena took the lead against the struggling Amateurs in the 25th minute when Tom Turkington's backpass was picked up by Dave Cairns who slotted home. Cliftonville equalised after a mix-up between Sean Walsh and David Cloughley which allowed Carlo Fusco the simple task of tapping the ball into an empty net. Carins' second goal came on 73 minutes as he latched onto Mal McDonnell's flick on to fire past George McKane and send United into the last eight. |

Match Description: Ballymena United had to wait until four minutes from time to for the only goal of the game. A corner from Jim Ryles looked to be going safely into the arms of goalkeeper Sam Kydd before Dave Cairns nipped into nod the ball home. Young Ards striker Billy McEvoy struck the woodwork twice before this but Cairns' goal was enough to send the Braidmen into the Shield final. |
