Coleraine:
After an excellent start to their league campaign, Coleraine had been top of the league for a period before they started dropping points, winning just 1 of their last 6 league games (3-2 home to Carrick Rangers), drawing 2 (2-2 at home to Glentoran and 2-2 away to Larne) and losing 3 (3-1 at Warrenpoint Town, 2-0 away to Institute and 1-0 away to Cliftonville last Saturday).

This leaves them sitting in 4th place in the Danske Bank Premiership table, 3 points behind Linfield who have 2 games in hand and 1 behind Cliftonville who have a single game in hand.
Ballymena United:
Ballymena United had a rough start to their season, suffering from numerous injuries to key players, but have recovered somewhat with 3 wins on the trot (1-0 away to Crusaders, 3-2 at home to Dungannon Swifts and 2-1 at home to Glenavon last Friday evening) after drawing 1-1 at home to Institute and losing 2-1 at home to Linfield and 2-1 away to Warrenpoint Town. These results mean United have picked up double the number of points Coleraine have in the last 6 games.

Chasing a top 6 spot, the Sky Blues sit 7th in the table, 5 points behind 6th placed Larne who have a game in hand. United last won the Boxing Day Derby against Coleraine in 2016 at the Showgrounds with Cathair Friel and Tony Kane grabbing the goals in a 2-0 win. The last time United won the Festive Derby at Coleraine was in 2013 when Alan Teggart and Allan Jenkins (2) made it 3, the home side managing goals from Gareth Tommons and Eoin Bradley.
