Cliftonville:
After finishing fifth in the Danske Bank Premiership last season, Cliftonville defeated Coleraine and Glentoran, both in extra time, to secure qualification for the Europa League. Holding Welsh side Barry Town United to a 0-0 draw away from home set up a great chance to progress, which they did with a 4-0 home win. They went on to face FK Haugesund of Norway, losing the first leg 1-0 at home before losing 5-1 in the away leg.

This season they've ground out results, defeating Glenavon, Cliftonville, Warrenpoint Town, Dungannon Swifts and Institute, drawing 1-1 at Coleraine, and losing to Crusaders and Linfield, leaving them sitting third with 16 points, 3 behind league leaders Crusaders. They've also progressed through to the third round of the BetMcLean League Cup with a 3-1 away win over Moyola Park and the second round of the Toals Co Antrim Shield with a 4-0 win over Knockbreda.
Ballymena United:
So far this season United have won league 3 games, beating Larne, Carrick Rangers and Warrenpoint, drawn 2 games against Dungannon Swifts and Coleraine, and losing 2 games against Glentoran and Glenavon. The Sky Blues now sit 7th in the table on 11 points, equal to the same stage last season, with a game in hand over the top 4 teams.

They've progressed through to the third round of the BetMcLean League Cup with a 3-0 win over Newington YC, and host Dollingstown on Tuesday 8th October. A 2-1 win over Dundela in the first round of the Toals Co Antrim Shield set up a second round tie at home to shield-holders Crusaders.
