BALLYMENA United host Welsh Premier League side Cardiff Met in a pre-season friendly at The Dub, Queen's University Playing Fields on Friday evening.
This is the first time the sides have met, with both having achieved qualification for the UEFA Europa League Preliminary Round this season.
Cardiff Met:
"The Archers" as they're commonly known, became the first British student-only side to qualify for European competition in May by beating Bala Town 3-1 on penalties in the Welsh Europa League play-off final. The side is made up of amateur players, and under the management of Christian Edwards they will face Progres Neiderkorn of Luxembourg in a few short weeks.
Ballymena United:
The "Sky Blues" reached the Europa League for the second time in 3 years with a second place finish in the Danske Bank Premiership securing automatic qualification. At the start of the 2017/18 season United faced Norwegian side "Odds Ballklubb" (Odd), losing the first leg 3-0 away from home in a sunny Skien and the second leg 2-0 at home. Manager David Jeffrey said after the tie "The people of Ballymena United, our community, our club and supporters should be extremely proud after seven training sessions and two games against a full-time professional side 14 games into their season. I have spoken to the players, but I make no apologies for raising expectations. We will set the bar a bit higher now to drive these players on and this game is key point in that experience."
