Ballinamallard United:
After a poor season to date, manager Gavin Dykes threw the towel in shortly after a 4-0 home defeat to Ards, being replaced before their next game, away to Glenavon, which they drew 0-0. They went on to draw 2-2 at home to Linfield last Friday evening, but remain at the foot of the league table staring relegation in the face.
Ballymena United:
After a miserable period when United lost the Toals Co Antrim Shield final 4-2 to Crusaders, the BetMcLean League Cup final 3-1 to Dungannon Swifts, and were dumped out of the Tennent's Irish Cup at the quarter-final stage with a 3-1 defeat by Larne, it looked implausible that United could finish in the top six.

With 3 games left before the split, the Sky Blues were 7 points behind Glentoran with 2 games in hand and a trip to The Oval, needing to win them all. A much improved display against Cliftonville at Solitude last Tuesday night ended 2-1 to United, keeping the hopes alive. Friday was a huge night at The Oval with Cathair Friel putting United ahead only to have their lead pegged back by a 67th minute Curtis Allen goal. A magic volley from Kofi Balmer on 77 minutes secured the win and the chance to finish in the top six with a win on Monday night.
