BALLYMENA United host Ards in the Toals Co Antrim Shield semi-finals on Tuesday night.
This game comes just two weeks after the previous meeting between the sides, when United needed extra-time to send the North Down side out of the BetMcLean League Cup at the quarter-final stage. It was a close tie, with the Sky Blues going 2-0 up thanks to goals from Cathair Friel and Gary Thompson, and Ards coming back through ex-United players Michael Ruddy and Johnny Taylor to make it 2-2 at 90 minutes. It was Tony Kane who came to the rescue with just 1 minute left in the second period of extra-time, firing an unstoppable drive into top corner of the goal from 20 yards.

Since the last game Ards have lost 1-0 away from home to Cliftonville, 4-1 away to Coleraine and, on Saturday afternoon, they shocked Glentoran with a 2-0 win at The Oval. They now sit 9th in the Danske Bank Premiership, 8 points behind United and a single point above 10th placed Warrenpoint Town. After David Elebert received his 5th yellow card at the Showgrounds in the Bet McLean League Cup game, he is suspended for this match.
Ballymena United:
Over the past fortnight the Braidmen defeated Dungannon Swifts 2-1 at home with a first half goal from Johnny McMurray and an 88th minute winner from Gary Thompson and, on Saturday afternoon, lost 1-0 to Cliftonville at Solitude despite hitting both the post and the crossbar. This leaves Ballymena in 7th place, a single point ahead of Dungannon Swifts and still 4 points behind 6th placed Glentoran.

United will be hoping to shake of Saturday's defeat and bounce straight back to defeat Ards for the second time in two weeks to reach the Toals Co Antrim Shield final against either Crusaders or Carrick Rangers who play at the same time at Seaview. As seen recently, Ards will provide stiff opposition, but the Sky Blues are more than a match for them.
