BALLYMENA United host Portadown in the third round of the BetMcLean League Cup on Tuesday night.
The sides met our last pre-season friendly prior to this seasons league campaign kicking off, United running out 2-1 winners thanks to second half goals from Joe McKinney and Kevin Braniff.

The Mid-Ulster side was relegated to the Bluefin Sport Championship at the end of last season and currently sit in 9th place, 5 points above bottom placed Larne. They have won 3, drawn 1 and lost 5 league games so far, most recently losing 2-1 at home to Ballyclare Comrades.

They beat Harland & Wolff Welders 3-2 at Shamrock Park to reach the third stage of the BetMcClean League Cup and will welcome the break from league action.
Ballymena United:
Despite qualifying for the Europa League through the play-offs at the end of last season, United have also had a poor start to the season, with 3 wins, 1 draw and 6 defeats in the league, leaving them in 8th place with 10 points, 4 behind 7th placed Dungannon Swifts who beat them 2-1 at Stangmore Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Sky Blues reached the third round of the BetMcClean League Cup with a 3-0 home win over Knockbreda, courtesy of goals from Cathair Friel, Joe McKinney and Willie Faulkner. Like opponents Portadown, United will also welcome the break from league action before facing Ards at home on Saturday.
