Dungannon Swifts:
Since the last encounter between the sides, Rodney McAree has guided his team to 2 wins, 4 draws and 3 defeats in the league, and currently sit in 8th place in the table with 18 points. They reached the quarter-final stage of the Mid-Ulster Cup, ending up crashing out to Glenavon at Mourneview Park, and were knocked out of the Northern Ireland Football League Cup on Wednesday night, losing 2-0 to Carrick Rangers at Belfast Loughshore Arena.
Ballymena United:
Over the same period, Ballymena United have had 7 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats in the league, working their way up to 3rd place in the table with 30 points. They were knocked out of the Toals Co Antrim Shield at the quarter-final stage, losing 2-1 to Ards in Ballymena, but made it through to the semi-finals of the Northern Ireland League Cup on Wednesday night, goals from Willie Faulkner and Cathair Friel securing a 2-0 win.
Jim Ervin:
Ballymena United club captain Jim Ervin is set to make his landmark 100th appearance in Saturday's game. The 31 year-old defender joined the club in January 2014 from Linfield, following a decade's service to the Windsor Park club under his current manager, David Jeffrey.
Since making his debut as a substitute against Harland & Wolff Welders in the Irish Cup his 99 appearances to date have produced two goals. Ervin's time at the club has unfortunately had it's lows too including a cruciate knee ligament injury suffered during in the Irish Cup final defeat to Glenavon in 2014, which kept him out of football for nine months.
However, following his return to action August 2015, Jim succeeded Allan Jenkins as club captain and in his first season as captain, led the Sky Blues to a memorable victory over his former club in the final of the County Antrim Shield in January this year.
If selected, he will join the elite band of current players with a milestone of a century of appearances; this list currently includes Tony Kane, Gary Thompson, Gavin Taggart and Allan Jenkins. Hopefully there are many more appearances to come from Ballymena Unitedís popular number 21!
