United face injury headache

BALLYMENA United face a hefty injury list ahead of Wednesday night's NIFL League Cup match away to Warrenpoint Town.
Alan Blayney, Stephen McBride, Gary Thompson (all knee), Johnny Flynn, Conor McCloskey (both hamstring), Johnny McMurray, Fra McCaffrey (both ankle), Denver Gage (calf), Gavin Taggart (neck/back), and Neil Lowry (groin) will all miss out on the travelling squad as the Sky Blues aim to secure a semi final spot.
Manager David Jeffrey commented "Injuries and suspensions are part and parcel of a football season, so this is just a new test of this group as to how we cope with our current situation. I always say that one player's misfortune is another's opportunity so I expect those who have been working hard on the fringes of the first team to stand up, be counted and to grasp this opportunity with both hands.
Warrenpoint are flying high in the Championship and will be favourites for a return to the top flight at the first ask. Towards the end of last season Warrenpoint gave us a footballing lesson, so we know that we will have to be at the top of our game. They have also retained a good number of players with Premiership experience, so playing against Ballymena United will hold no fears for them. It is a one off game and they will consider themselves to have as good a chance as any tomorrow evening.
Of course the talk beforehand will be of Matthew Tipton, and we wish him well now at the start of his management career, but once the match kicks off tomorrow night there's no time for sentiment and we need to put together a gutsy performance down there.
I have lauded the fantastic support from the stands throughout the season and call on our supporters to make all the difference again on Wednesday night."
