Stephen Alexander steps down from Times role
Uploaded Thursday, 28th Jul, 2016 at 20:13

IT is with a feeling of regret that we received the news that local journalist Stephen Alexander is standing down from his role of sports editor at the Ballymena Times.
Stephen is an ardent Ballymena United supporter and exceptional statistician, but in his role with the Times over the years he has provided an excellent platform for the promotion of not only Ballymena United, but all local sports coverage across the wider borough. More recently Stephen has been at the forefront of providing excellent online and social media content, keeping supporters up to date with breaking news.
Stephen has been a true friend of Ballymena United, has sponsored the annual Players' Player of the Year award for many years, and has built strong working relationships throughout the club and with various managers over many seasons. He is truly straight forward to work with and, at a time where journalism can be subject to increased pressures to focus on the bad news story, he has always looked out for best interests of the local sporting community by promoting the successes and the talent that the town has to offer.

Long serving club Secretary Don Stirling added, "I have worked with Stephen for a long time and have always found him completely honest and trustworthy and always keen to highlight the positive side of Ballymena United. I personally will miss the banter on the way to and from games. I would like to wish Stephen all the best in his future career, and I have a feeling that we haven't seen the last of him around the Showgrounds. A little freelancing perhaps! I certainly hope so, it would be a shame if his undoubted talent as a journalist was lost."
We look forward to continuing our relationship with the Ballymena Times and with those who follow in his footsteps, but we extend our best wishes to Stephen and his family, and we hope that in whatever lies ahead we will get the opportunity to continue working together again.
