BALLYMENA United is delighted to give its full backing to a new initiative to replace the current Supporter Liaison role, and welcomes the appointment of new Supporter Liaison Officer Emma Scott.
The role, first brought in as a requirement for premiership and UEFA licensing has been fulfilled by Philip Simpson for the past eight seasons, and a review of the position has led to an exciting new structure that will bring the club and supporters even closer and lead to a direct line of communication with supporters clubs.
Outgoing post holder Philip Simpson explained the process, "as one person it became more difficult to ensure that the voice of all supporters clubs was being heard and that the wider support were being represented as the fan base has grown incrementally in the past few seasons. On top of this we were also actively seeking ways to encourage supporters to become part of a supporters club to enhance their experience of following the club home and away. What has naturally come to fruition is the SLO committee, which will be a supporters group represented by all official supporters clubs and chaired by an SLO who is independent of the football club and supporter clubs. The new SLO will act as an advocate for supporters and a line of communication for information to travel both ways."
Chairman John Taggart welcomed the opportunity for the club to work even more closely with supporters, "firstly can I pay tribute to Philip Simpson, who took this role on in its infancy and set the foundations for supporter engagement with the club. It's testament to his work that both the role has grown to be what it is now, and also that he has been invited on to the management committee. That creates a new opportunity for someone to come in and lead the new supporters committee in a new era, and on behalf of the board of directors I'm delighted that Emma Scott has agreed to take on the position as independent supporter liaison officer."

Philip Simpson explained the next steps, "we'll be working with Emma over the next couple of months to hand over the role and have the supporters club reps to develop new ideas around events and engagement with the club and social media for the SLO. Over the course of this season the new structure will take place and will be supporter led with the full backing of the football club."
