WE'RE delighted to announce that Joshua Kelly has signed from Ards. The 20 year old central midfielder becomes the third player to join ahead of the season, along with Kenny Kane and Declan Carville.
Manager David Jeffery was pleased to be able to bring the young talent into the squad at the start of pre-season training, "We're delighted that we've eventually brought Josh to the club. He's been on our radar for a couple of seasons - Joe McCall has seen him quite a number of time, and Paul McAreavey the same. Bryan and I have seen him particularly when hes played for Ards against us and simply put he's a great player with greater potential. Obviously with us being in the Premiership and Ards being relegated went in our favour, but there were several other clubs wanted his signature and we are really pleased he chose us. We expect to see this go in the way that both we and him want it to go and we will see him play a big part in our next campaign."

Kelly was looking forward to getting started straight away into training, "I'll not deny that staying in the Premiership is a big factor in my decision, but also the opportunity to be playing under David and Bryan and with the players here. Ballymena United is a club on the up and I want to be a part of that. Looking at the squad; the likes of Jim Ervin, it'll be a pleasure to play with a player who has won it all and who I used to watch play for Linfield, then the likes of Leroy Millar in the middle and also there's goalscoring talent like Cathair Friel - it's just brilliant to be a part of that squad and to be training with these players."
Meanwhile, a player leaving the club is Albert Watson who's decision to switch to full time football at Larne was announced earlier, "we offered Albert a new contract at the end of the season and we respected his wishes to take time to consider it. He came back to me on Sunday past and said that although the offer to stay at Ballymena and play under Bryan and myself was appealing, he has an offer that Larne can offer him full time football and a full time wage. With that, he goes with our best wishes. Albert came in to help us get over the line for European qualification and he certainly made a contribution to that, but this is now a new chapter for him and he will move on, as does Ballymena United."
