BALLYMENA United are delighted to announce that Kofi Balmer has signed a one year extension to his existing contract, committing to the club until June 2021.
The 18 year old defender made his debut, scoring in a 1-1 draw against Coleraine in April 2017, and has since made almost 50 appearances. He also recently captained the Northern Ireland U19's in a three game mini tournament.

Manager David Jeffrey was delighted to have another player show their commitment to the future plans at the Showgrounds, "where can I start with Kofi? An incredible young man who came looking for an opportunity when we signed him from Linfield and we saw his talent and ability immediately.
Ironically the start of his first team journey, away to Coleraine, saw him make a mistake for their goal but then the measure of his maturity and character was to brush that off and cap a great debut with the equaliser which secured 4th place. Since then he has been in the senior squad - a tireless worker, an outstanding young man who is a credit to his parents and who continually wants to play and improve his game.
He has of course been recognised through his call up to the Northern Ireland squad, and being handed the captaincy evidences how highly Stephen Frail thinks of him. Kofi then came straight from playing the final of three games for Northern Ireland and was prepared to put himself straight into the firing line against Glentoran if needed - his commitment to the cause and desire to be an integral member of this squad typifies his character and models the behaviours that we ask of all our players.
In the middle of all his achievements and watching him play, it's easy to forget that he is still only 18 years old. I had the privilege of being a guest at his prize giving last year and seeing him in his school environment it struck me just how gracious and mature a young man Kofi is. We are blessed to have him here at Ballymena United.
With Leroy, Ross and now Kofi signing new contracts, it's clear to see the direction we are going and it bodes well for the club. We continue to build for the future with players who are sharing the vision on where we want to go and buy into that. In our last few games players have literally been putting their bodies on the line for the club and that is exactly the attitude that will see players have a long future wearing Sky Blue."
