Basit returns to Ghana

BALLYMENA United can announce this evening that Basit Umar has left the club and returned to Ghana. The 18-year-old U20 international requested to return home following the recurrence of a groin injury.
Manager David Jeffrey explained, "when we signed Basit just prior to the deadline, we did so on the assurance that he was fully fit and injury free. Upon arrival he went through the usual medical where we discovered that he had a historic groin injury, however he assured that he had played with it in Ghana and it hadn't hindered him, so we took it as it stood.
He played against Ballyclare and in two U20 matches, the second of which he had to come off injured. In terms of his recovery we estimated 4-6 weeks and he felt that this put his inclusion in the Ghana U20 African Cup of Nations squad in doubt, therefore requested to return home for recovery and treatment in a more favourable climate.
We are obviously disappointed that this venture didn't work out but we didn't count on a player arriving with an injury. Nonetheless we wish Basit all the best for the future, he was very grateful and thanked the club for how he was treated and looked after and he leaves with our full blessing."
