BALLYMENA United are delighted to formally announce the signings of Jonathan Addis, Shane McGinty, James Knowles, Reece Glendinning, Jude Winchester and Andrew McGrory.
In a busy night at the Showgrounds, manager David Jeffrey can finally confirm all six signings in one go as his squad starts to take a new shape for next season. Having seen eight players leave the club and three extend their contracts, the boss has moved quickly to bolster the line-up for the season ahead.
"There has been an incredible amount of work behind the scenes, not just at the end of the season but throughout it in trying to identify players who will improve the quality of our squad. To that end, head scout Paul McAreavey and Joe McCall, who completes reports on upcoming opposition, deserve a tremendous lot of credit. They are constantly bringing us names of players who have impressed home and away and then go on to build a dossier of all players who catch our eye. It is one thing identifying them, the next stage is to meet them and bring them in to the club, especially when we are competing with other clubs. Bryan and I are very pleased with the players who have agreed to come to Ballymena. We have tried to give them an insight into our vision and our goals, and there is no doubt each of these players had other options but chose to come here - we are thankful to them individually for the commitment shown so far in wanting to join Ballymena United.
With regards to the players signed and re-signed, we purposely targeted younger players who, whilst young in years, had a sound Irish League grounding and experience. We had a profile type of player to target and that is the type we have been able to attract to the club.
Thanks in particular to Paul McAreavey for the hours on the phone and information gathering prior to player meetings with myself and Bryan - as always here at the Showgrounds, it is a team effort, on and off the pitch. UBU"
Jonathan Addis, 25, signs a two year contract having previously played for Glentoran and Carrick Rangers.

"David and his staff have won everything there is to win, and so that was a big attraction for me to come here. The club is going places and there's potential for further growth. As a squad we'll collectively have goals we want to achieve and I aim to be right in there finding form and contributing."

Shane McGinty, 24, signs a two year deal having previously had spells in the League of Ireland with Finn Harps, Sligo and Galway, as well as the Irish League with Coleraine, Institute and most recently at Ballinamallard.

"Playing here previously as an opposition player you just admired the structures in place, the facilities and the support- it's everything that makes you feel like a player. How David and Bryan sold their vision to me makes me want to be a part of their plans going forward."

Former Cliftonville, Linfield, Glentoran and Blackburn Rovers U21 player James Knowles, 25, also signs a two year deal at the Showgrounds.

"Absolutely delighted to be here. I spoke to David and I know his plans, I know the players coming in and it's exciting. I've come here to fulfil my potential and I don't think there's anybody better to do that under than David and Bryan"

Reece Glendinning, 22, is brother of goalkeeper Ross and joins for two years having come through the ranks at Linfield from a young age, and was on loan at Ards last season where he picked up the player of the year award.

"Obviously I've watched a few games that Ross has been involved in and I know all about David from my time at Linfield, so it was a no brainer to join. We want to go and push on as a club, reach more finals, get into Europe and get as high up the table as we can."

Jude Winchester, 25, signs on a two year deal having previously played for Cliftonville and Linfield in the Irish League and before that was under former Ballymena United manager Kenny Shiels at Kilmarnock.

"I like what David and Bryan are doing here and it gives me a confidence boost that I knew there and then that this was the right place for me. Ballymena have shown proven success over the past few seasons and so I aim to stay fit, play every week and be a big part of this club going forward."

Andrew McGrory, 26, signs on a two year contract from Glenavon, having started his career at Linfield.

"When I was younger I played at Linfield under Bryan and David and so they know how I work. When they heard I wasn't signing for Glenavon again they spoke to me and pitched their ideas to me and I liked what they had to say. Every player wants to get into the team and stay in the team and I'm no different, I want to create and score goals and hopefully I can do that for Ballymena."
