BALLYMENA United are delighted to announce some transfer dealings completed prior to the window closing.
Manager David Jeffrey has moved to bolster his squad by signing defensive midfielder Patrick Weir and goalkeeper Thomas McDermott. Meanwhile midfielder Tony Kane has also signed a two year contract extension. Going out on loan is defender Caolan Loughran who has joined Larne on loan until the end of the season.
The signing of 22 year old Weir follows a successful trial in January. The Australian native has spent recent seasons in Germany, lastly with Brandenburger SC.

McDermott, who turned 20 this week, joins from Derry City, having previously spent three years in Tottenham Hotspurs' development squad. He fills the space left following Conor Brennan's departure earlier this month.

Manager David Jeffrey reflected on the signings, "Patrick made contact with us about having an opportunity to come over on the back of a strong recommendation of the club from Tim Allen. We facilitated a trial, and having created a good impression in terms of commitment and application he has signed until the end of season for us to have an extended look at him and to let Patrick see how he settles here. He brings us flexibility at the back where he has experience of playing across all positions in defence.
With Connor Brennan's departure to Scotland it was of the utmost importance that we secured a keeper in this window. We met Thomas and his father last week and are delighted that he also agreed to join to end of the season. For a player of his age to be bringing the experience he has already gained is an incredible strength to the squad. It is very important to us that Thomas coming in is not just about cover, but competition for places.

In terms of existing squad news, Bryan and I are already beginning the process of looking a little way ahead, and to that end Anthony Kane has agreed to a further two year extension to his contract. His contribution in all his time here is more than measurable and he had a great season last year. Niggling injuries and a little loss of form hampered him a bit this year but certainly since returning to the first team he is reminding us all of the contribution he makes and we are delighted he has chosen to extend his time here. In present day football not many players get the chance to have a decade at a club so the target for Tony is to grasp the opportunity to earn himself a testimonial at the end of his contract.
One last piece of business with regards to the first team squad - I spoke last week that, in an effort to enhance Caolan Loughran's development, we were open to loan offers. Since then Carrick and Larne approached ourselves to express an interest and so Caolan has agreed to join Larne on loan until the end of season. Caolan is contracted to us for another year and so our hope is that he goes and has a good injury free time with Larne this year to continue his football education, and develops himself even more for next season."
