BALLYMENA United have tonight confirmed that Neil Lowry has left the club by mutual consent.
The 23 year-old striker had re-joined his home town club at the start of last season after a spell playing football in Austria but injuries have seen his appearances limited over the past year.
Manager David Jeffrey told the club website, "We were most pleased when Neil joined us last season. He has bundles of talent and we hoped for great things from him. He had a disappointing and frustrating time with injuries, particularly his shoulder, and each time he has worked hard to get back to fitness it has ended up with a further set back.
We sat down with the club physio Gary Crosbie last week and mapped out the injuries over a period of time and Neil came to the decision that in the best interests of his football career, and indeed his general health, that he needed to take a year out in order to let his shoulder heal completely. He felt that it would be wrong to collect a wage at the club when he had taken a decision not to be able to resume playing and we have massive respect for his openness and honesty.
Neil is without doubt one of the most naturally gifted players that myself and Bryan have worked with and we wish him every best wishes and success for a speedy healing and returning to football. We've told him not to be a stranger and when he recovers and is ready to continue his career, who knows what the future can hold for him here at the Showgrounds."
