BALLYMENA United are pleased to announce that midfielder Jake McNeill has returned to the club to join up with the first team squad.
Jake is no stranger to the club, having shown promise through the youth teams here as U20's Manager Paul Harbinson explains, "Jake had always shown his ability here at youth level and when we had him with us two seasons ago he scored 13 from midfield in a season that saw him pick up Player of the Season and Players' Player of the Season.
It was agreed last year that for his own progression, moving to Knockbreda would benefit him. When you let a player of Jake's ability go out to another club there's always an element of risk and trust that both the player and the other club will drive forward in their development. In this case Jake had a very successful campaign and it's fantastic that he's come back here a year older and a year further on as a footballer."

Manager David Jeffrey was equally pleased to welcome Jake back to the club, "we have monitored Jake's progression and have absolutely no hesitation in bringing him back to where he wants to be and where he is wanted. We've always known his talent but the last year has cemented his ability to produce this against tough teams with experienced players. He's a strong, driving central midfielder with a fantastic range of passing and a keen eye on goal.
We have had a number of instances where we have let a young player go out to earn their stripes playing football against strong physical players, and we will continue to do so. The U18 and U20's are great for development to a point, but we can only know the true potential of a young player when we see them in that different environment.
I would like to pay tribute to Knockbreda for taking on the responsibility of Jake's development and looking after him as a player. Special praise, though, has to go to Paul Harbinson and Gareth Moody who epitomise the ethos of the entire staff team. They do what they do for the greater good of each individual player and their development into the senior team."
Jake will be taking squad number 28 for the season. Welcome back!!
