Match Description: Ballymena over came the tricky obstacle of neighbours Wakehurst in the two sides' first competitive meeting. United went ahead through Vinny Sweeney on 25 minutes, and the same man doubled the lead to kill the game off 15 minutes from time. Gary Haveron rocketed in a last minute third, before Scott Drummond pulled one back for plucky Wakehurst.

Match Description: A ultimately comfortable win at the Showgrounds over a tricky Cliftonville side. Albert Watson headed United in front just before half time and Gary Haveron struck with only minutes remaining to seal the 2-0 win and a place in the semi-finals.

Match Description: After a pretty even first half, Scottish striker Kevin Kelbie was the difference between the two sides at Inver Park, as he opened the scoring just after half time and sealed the win eight minutes later with his second. He deservedly grabbed his hat-trick in the final minute to send United to the County Antrim Shield final.

Match Description: Tommy Wright came within a whisker of winning the County Antrim Shield. Scottish striker had fired Ballymena into the lead at Seaview on 32 minutes. However former United favourite Oran Kearney equalised soon after the interval. Kelbie agonisingly hit the crossbar, as Linfield went onto win the Shield with Glenn Ferguson scoring the winner in the last five minutes.
