Match Description: Ballymena started their 2002/2003 season with a disappointing home draw against Carrick Rangers, the Ulster Cup tie also marked the first game in front of the new £3m grandstand at the Showgrounds. Peter Withnell opened scoring just before the hour, but against the run of play Keith Dallas sneaked an equaliser for the visitors with three minutes remaining.

Match Description: United destroyed their Ballyclare counterparts at Dixon Park in the second game of the campaign. Shea Campbell took only 5 minutes to open the scoring, and he got his and United's second 20 minutes later. Peter Withnell was soon on the scoresheet, and new signing Oran Kearney scored his first for the club just before half-time. Campbell completed his hat-trick on the hour to make it five, and Nigel Boyd completed the scoring in the final minute to complete the six goal salvo.

Match Description: This game between the two favourites for the Ulster Cup proved to be a goalless affair, as the two defences proved to much for either side's attack. The main incident of note was the sending off of United striker Peter Withnell in the 76th minute for a second bookable offence.

Match Description: United grinded out a win against neighbours Larne on matchday four, as both sides had chances to win this tie at the Showgrounds. However the game won by a single goal from in-form Shea Campbell, who drilled home the winner after 57 minutes.

Match Description: Ballymena's good early season form produced another goal-filled encounter against Bangor. An excellent first half display started with Trevor McLernon opening the scoring after 20 minutes, In-form Shea Campbell struck twice in nine minutes before Peter Withnell put the match beyond all reasonable doubt with number four with five minutes of the first half remaning. Bangor pulled one back straight after the break through Ian Coulter, but Campbell grabbed his second hat-trick of the season when he notched number five just after the hour mark.

Match Description: A very comfortable win for Ballymena against a struggling Armagh City side. Trevor McLernon bent in a free-kick after 34 minutes. Oran Kearney and Shea Campbell added a goal apiece either side of the break. Richie Johnston pulled one back for the visitors after 57 minutes. However the Sky Blues regained their three goal lead five minute from time when Paul Millar fired home.

Match Description: Ballymena United's hopes of a first Ulster Cup success since 1981, were shattered at the Limavady Showgrounds. Limavady's Mickey Devlin opened the scoring after just 25 minutes and it was all downhill from there. Davy Patton scored number two after the hour, and Paul Brown rubbed salt into the wound with a third. This scoreline meant that Dungannon Swifts won the Ulster Cup, to claim their first senior trophy.
